Big Y Opens New market in Norwood, MA

SPRINGFIELD, MA [September 15, 2022] – On Thursday, September 22, 2022, Big Y will be celebrating the official opening of their 72nd supermarket at 434 Walpole Street in Norwood. Big Y will kick off a month of celebrations, virtual store tours, giveaways, special sales, exciting discounts and a myriad of contests. Construction began in September of 2021 for the 54,465 square foot market. Big Y has hired 100 new employees for this store. According to Big Y president and CEO, Charles L. D’Amour, “All of us at Big Y are excited to show the Norwood community our unique shopping experience. I’m very proud of our teams who have been working diligently for months to prepare this market for opening. We know that our customers will appreciate our selection of fresh and local foods, our outstanding employee service and the value and variety that our new store has to offer.”

Some highlights of this market include signature offerings in every department from hand tossed pizzas, rotisserie chickens and freshly sliced to order Boar's Head premium Deli meat and cheese as well as made to order subs, fresh seafood delivered 6 days a week, live Maine lobsters steamed free, exclusive cooked to order fish & chips and sushi, chef prepared fresh daily. Other departments feature restaurant quality Angus Choice and Prime beef, a wide variety of specialty products like grass fed beef, air-chilled chicken, hand decorated cakes, made from scratch snowflake rolls, hand crafted floral arrangements and natural, organic, gluten free products. Big Y’s extensive produce department of over 500 different items supports as many local farmers as possible throughout the growing season including Davidian Farms from neighboring Northboro, MA. Other local finds as part of the over 2000 local products include favorites like Fanny’s Italian salad dressings and pasta sauces from Framingham, Bianco Sausages from Medford, Lighthouse Keepers jams and jellies from Yarmouthport and Dalby Farms pickles, preserves, BBQ sauce and more from Scituate.

In addition to exceptional service, customers will appreciate the added convenience and safety of self-checkouts and myExpress Checkout, Big Y’s new scan and go service where customers can scan their own items for an even faster shopping trip.

Store Director, Nate Draper has been in grocery retail for the past 33 years. He started as a part time service clerk and has held many other positions including trainer and merchandiser. He joined the Big Y family 5 years ago in order to be part of their employee first culture. According to Draper “Our team has been nothing less than amazing throughout this process. From construction, to procurement, sales and operations everyone has proved to be "better together" to make sure the store is the best possible place for customers to shop. The team in store has been working diligently to get all of our new employees acclimated and trained to provide the world class shopping experience that our customers have come to expect from us. A company strongly committed to giving back to their local community, Big Y has donated food valued at over $11 million last year to local non-profit organizations, schools, churches and educational programs. As part of their opening celebration, Big Y will be donating $1000 to Lovin’ Spoonfuls Food Rescue of Boston in order to provide further assistance in the region.
