Product Safety Notices & Recalls

We maintain the highest standards of performance in all areas of our Big Y Locations especially when it comes to the well-being of our community.

Recall: a situation in which exposure will, may, or may not cause adverse health consequences. Detail of the recalled product consequences is listed within each posted product recall.

Market Withdrawal: occurs when a product has a minor concern that would not be subject to FDA nor USDA legal action. For example, if a product did not have the correct consistency or color and did not meet the company's quality expectations.

Consumer Advisories: a situation in which there is a known by the FDA or USDA reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death. The situation has not been announced to the public by FDA nor USDA yet as a Recall.

Tide Pods and Gain Flings Laundry Detegent Packets Recall

April 5, 2024

Procter & Gamble is recalling certain lot codes of Tide Pods, Gain Flings, Ace Pods and Ariel Pods liquid laundry detergent packets packaged in flexible film bags.

Beretta and Culinary Tours Coppa and Antipasto Trays Recall

February 13, 2024

Fratelli Beretta USA, Inc., a Mount Olive, N.J. establishment, is recalling an undetermined amount of ready-to-eat (RTE) meat charcuterie products containing Coppa that may be under processed, which may have resulted in possible contamination with foodborne pathogens.

Quaker Simply Granola Oats Honey & Almonds Cereal Recall

February 07, 2024

The Quaker Oats Company is recalling 24.1-ounce packages of Quaker Simply Granola Oats, Honey and Almond Cereal due to a minor labeling issue. Unfortunately, this product was labeled with a Best Buy Date of July 2024 that inaccurately indicates it is part of Quaker’s recent product recall that was issued on 12-15-2023.

Quaker Oats Company Recall

January 12, 2024

The Quaker Oats Company has announced an expansion of the December 15, 2023 recall to include additional cereals and bars. Additional products also include Gamesa Marias cereal and Cap’n Crunch Instant Oatmeal. This expansion also includes Gatorade Protein Peanut Butter Chocolate bars, based on an ingredient supplied from Quaker.


Market Withdrawals

  • Yogi Echinacea Immune Support Tea - April 22, 2024 - Yogi Tea Company is withdrawing certain lot codes/best buy dates of Yogi Echinacea Immune Support Tea. As part of a recent annual audit, a raw material sample of Echinacea tested above the acceptable limit for multiple pesticides.
  • Big Y Slicing Provolone Withdrawal - April 12, 2024 - Big Y Foods is issuing a market withdrawal for Big Y Slicing Provolone due to a quality concern. This is not a food safety issue.
  • Wide Awake Ready-To-Drink Caramel Drink Withdrawal - April 11, 2024 - Topco Associates has issued a market withdrawal for Wide Awake Ready-To-Drink Caramel Drink because the individual units may not be fully homogenized and as such may contain undissolved ingredients. This is not a food safety issue.
  • Metamucil Capsules Market Withdrawal - February 2, 2024 - Proctor & Gamble has issued a market withdrawal for Metamucil 3-IN-1 Daily Fiber Capsules, 160 count bottles, that were produced starting in July 2023, for a labeling defect on the package.
  • Big Y Sesame Seeds Withdrawal - January 26, 2024 - Big Y has issued a voluntary market withdrawal for 1 lot code of 8oz Big Y Sesame Seeds due to trace amounts of a pesticide found in the product.
