Big Y is committed to making a difference in the communities in which we work and live.
Through educational programs such as Big Y Scholarship Programs, and community programs, community food drives such as Food for All and fundraising for Breast Cancer Awareness, Big Y works to give something back to the towns we call home.
And our efforts don't stop there.
Many Big Y employees volunteer their time and energy to helping friends and future friends in need. Our company encourages all stores to participate in our Employee Community Service Day.
Each store sponsors programs in their town and employees and their families roll up their sleeves to make every town a better place to live and work.
Every year in April and May, over 1,700 employees volunteer more than 5,000 hours of community service throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Breast Cancer Awareness
Since 2007, with your help, Big Y has raised more than $2 million to support Partners of Hope.
Scholarships
Big Y has awarded 3.9 million dollars to over 5,200 students since the beginning of the program. All Big Y scholarships recognize academic merit and achievement.
UMASS Student Farm
Big Y is partners with the "Student Farm Enterprise" to bring its customers local organic produce. The "Student Farm Enterprise" is run by University of Massachusetts students from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture.
Our Local Heroes
We extend our gratitude to the local heroes - the health care workers, the first responders, and our very own employees – who make it possible for us to continue to support and protect our loved ones in our community.
Donations
Big Y has provided $250,000 in financial assistance to area food banks in addition to the healthy surplus food it provides to them on a weekly basis.
Using the estimate that every dollar donated provides four meals, the Big Y financial assistance amounts to 1 million meals.
“Our goal, our mission, is to feed families,” explained Charlie D’Amour, President and CEO of Big Y. “We have people in our communities that are really struggling to get food on their table. The role of food banks serving local neighborhoods has never been more important.”
